TESCO expects a flat 2009 Christmas!
Australian Tax Payers, The Future Fund takes a stake in Birmingham’s Bullring…Mmm?
What are Australian and New Zealand Retailers expecting from Christmas 2009?

Higginson, TESCO’s CERS thinks, as do over 30 key UK business leaders including M&S, John Lewis and Boots that the UK consumer market will not kick until 2011.

·         Interesting when the Australian sovereign wealth tax payers fund, the Future Fund, has purchased control of a 33.3pc stake in the Birmingham shopping centre…is the timing of this acquisition in the interest of Australian Tax payers – we hope so.

We have said repeatedly that Australia is not the UK – fundamentally streets ahead in economic strength but Australia is still reliant on Europe, the UK and the US to have retail consumer spending growth to maintain resource and services sales to China and therefore Australians spending.

·         It comes back to The RETAiL Alert Group current mantras – keep the infrastructure spend happening and do not touch interest rates until February 2010.
