The RETAiL Alert Group wishes the Sanity Team under Ray Itaoui success.
From 1999 when Sanity launched sanity.com the shift in consumer demand for retail entertainment product has moved inexorably first to on-line buying and now Digital downloads rent or buy on-line / in-store via Digital Entertainment Kiosks as consumer demand moves to Digital.
· The writer remembers commenting at the sanity.com launch in 1999 the ‘music will go soft’ – it has happened, but Sanity has survived when many international and local entertainment retailers have failed.
Sanity has fought from 1999 to hold and grow one of the leading retail entertainment chains in Australia, the acquisition of HMV, the VIRGIN arrangement two brave decisions when internationally retail entertainment stores were crashing.
· Sanity was the first Australian entertainment retailer to go on-line in 1999, Sanity was the first Australian entertainment retailer to offer digital downloads in Australia in 2003, Sanity was the first retailer internationally to bring Digital Music Kiosks to market from 2006 – in summary aggressive initiatives delivered against a backdrop of Music Label and now Studio resistance to delivering music and DVD’s via shop floor Digital Entertainment Kiosks.
The RETAiL Alert Group believes that if Sanity reinforces the brand as Australia’s premier on-line and in-store Digital Entertainment retailer with a degree of store design engineering that Sanity will continue being a major physical, Digital and on-line player in the Australian retail entertainment market.
· Sanity will require the support of the Music Labels and Studios to deliver to new format to market – it is hoped that they clearly understand that their ability to continue to sell future hard CD and DVD product is directly tied to supporting entertainment retailers such as Sanity as they morph becoming that combo Digital and physical entertainment retailer Australian and New Zealand 2009 consumers are wanting……..expect to see that Digital trend accelerate in 2010.
It would be a tragedy for Australian entertainment industry, artists and its customers if Sanity is forced to close physical outlets in Australian shopping centres due to lack of support on Digital initiatives from the Australian music labels and studio representatives – everyone loses.
The Australian Shopping Centre Industry will need to ‘support’ Sanity while the Digital morphing process takes place.
We believe it is the commercial long term interest of Australian Music Labels and Australian Studios swinging behind the Sanity Entertainment Management Team proactively supporting Sanity market growth and Sanity market change initiatives – particularly Digital!
